It Takes a Village

Every rescue story begins with someone saying "yes." But behind every animal we rescue is an entire community of people making that "yes" possible.

At Fabled Farm Rescue & Sanctuary, we're proud to be 100% volunteer run. There are no paid employees caring for the animals each day. Every stall cleaned, every bottle fed, every fence repaired, every adoption completed, every event hosted, and every animal loved happens because someone chose to give their time. Our volunteers are the heart of this rescue.

More Than Just Helping Animals

When most people think about volunteering at an animal rescue, they imagine cuddling kittens or petting baby goats. Yes, there's plenty of that, but volunteering is about so much more.

It's watching a frightened animal slowly learn to trust people again. It's celebrating the first time a shy bunny hops into your lap. It's helping prepare an animal for their new families. It's seeing firsthand how your time creates real, lasting change.

Many of our volunteers tell us they came to help the animals but ended up finding something they needed, too. A chance to slow down. Fresh air after a busy workweek. New friendships. A sense of purpose. A place where kindness is contagious.

Animals have a remarkable way of giving back to the people who care for them.

There Is a Place for Everyone

One of the biggest misconceptions about volunteering at a rescue is that you have to be an "animal person" with years of experience. The truth is, we need all kinds of people with all kinds of skills.

Some volunteers love spending time socializing kittens so they're confident and ready for adoption. Others enjoy grooming goats, brushing donkeys, or helping our rabbits enjoy enrichment and playtime. Some people don't mind getting dirty and help scoop manure, clean stalls, refill water buckets, and keep the farm running smoothly. Others prefer picking up a paintbrush, repairing fences, organizing supplies, landscaping, clearing brush, or helping with special building projects that improve life for the animals.

We also rely on volunteers during community events, fundraisers, adoption days, and educational programs where we introduce people to rescue animals and teach responsible animal care.

No matter your age, background, or experience, there's almost always a way you can make a difference.

The Little Things Matter

Sometimes the smallest tasks make the biggest impact. A few extra minutes cuddling kittens helps them become friendly family pets. Brushing a goat strengthens trust and allows us to monitor their health. Cleaning a stall gives an animal a comfortable place to rest. Bottle feeding a baby or simply sitting quietly with a nervous new arrival helps them feel safe in an unfamiliar world. These moments may seem ordinary, but together they create extraordinary lives.
