Sharing Rescue Stories With the World
When we started Fabled Farm Rescue & Sanctuary in 2021, our goal was pretty simple: help the animals who needed us. We certainly didn't expect that some of their stories would eventually be watched and shared by millions of people around the world. Yet somehow, here we are.
Over the past few months, several Fabled Farm stories have traveled far beyond our little farm in Tennessee, thanks to organizations like The Dodo and Cuddle Buddies. Seeing these animals introduced to audiences around the world has been exciting, a little surreal, and a wonderful reminder of why telling their stories matters.
From a Midnight Adventure in Iceland to The Dodo
Apparently, we can't even leave the country without finding something to rescue. During a five-day trip to Iceland, we learned about the local tradition of rescuing baby puffins, called pufflings, who sometimes become disoriented by the lights in town and head inland instead of toward the ocean.
Naturally, we decided to go looking. What followed involved wandering around a tiny Icelandic island at midnight, finding absolutely no other people or puffins for quite some time, eventually discovering one very tiny puffling, realizing we had gloves but no actual container in which to put said puffling, and somehow figuring it out from there.
We named him Örn. After keeping him safe overnight, we took him to the local Puffin Rescue the following morning to be checked. Later that day, we stood on the cliffs overlooking the Atlantic and watched him spread his wings and fly toward the ocean.
We shared the adventure online thinking people might enjoy our very unexpected vacation rescue. Millions of views later, The Dodo has now shared Örn's story, too.
The best part of all that attention isn't seeing a big number beside a video. It's knowing that millions of people who may never have known about Iceland's pufflings are now learning about them and about the people working to protect them. Learn more about Puffin Rescue.
The Stories That Started Right Here at Fabled Farm
Other recent stories reaching new audiences began much closer to home. Cuddle Buddies has featured two stories from Fabled Farm, giving people around the world a chance to meet some of the animals whose lives have become part of ours.
The Little Things Matter
Sometimes the smallest tasks make the biggest impact. A few extra minutes cuddling kittens helps them become friendly family pets. Brushing a goat strengthens trust and allows us to monitor their health. Cleaning a stall gives an animal a comfortable place to rest. Bottle feeding a baby or simply sitting quietly with a nervous new arrival helps them feel safe in an unfamiliar world. These moments may seem ordinary, but together they create extraordinary lives.
Every animal who arrives here has a story. Some are funny. Some are heartbreaking. Some are stories of second chances, resilience and learning to trust again. And some involve a goat doing something so completely ridiculous that we really have no choice but to turn on the camera. Sharing those moments might seem like the easy part of rescue, but we've come to realize that storytelling is an important part of the work, too.
Why We Keep Sharing
Most people will never walk through the gates of Fabled Farm. They may never meet the senior horse who finally found a safe place to land, cuddle the kitten who survived against the odds, or experience the particular challenge of trying to accomplish farm chores while a certain free-roaming goat insists on supervising.
Stories give them that opportunity. A video can introduce someone hundreds or thousands of miles away to an animal they otherwise never would have known existed. Sometimes that person becomes a follower. Sometimes they share the story with a friend. Sometimes they donate, volunteer, adopt, or learn something that changes the way they think about rescue animals.
And sometimes a little story from Tennessee—or one very unexpected story from Iceland—travels much farther than we ever imagined.
Fabled Farm may be a small rescue, but the stories that begin here don't have to stay here.
